Since moving to Vietnam the only style of beer I’d been able to get my hands on were pale lagers. That all changed when I read about Quan Ut Ut in a magazine at the doctor’s office. I might say that was the best doctor’s visit I’ve ever had. I’d been looking for an IPA. Unfortunately, they didn’t have any, yet they did have some pale ale. It made sense since the restaurant is targeted to the local market where lagers is all that is consumed.

On most nights there is an hour wait to get in here. This night I was lucky and it was pouring rain so I got in right away. Quan Ut Ut is run by three foreigners and is unique from anything else I have seen in Saigon. I was surprised to see the address was not in the tourist section.

I would have been happy with just some good (non-lager) beer. I was really in for a treat when I took my first bite of the ribs. The food here was just as delicious as the beer, and the beer was really good. The owners stood outside and held umbrellas for customers waiting for a taxi home. Luckily my taxi took a while and I was able to have a really nice conversation with the owners. If you find yourself in Saigon be sure to stop by Quan Ut Ut for a one-of-a-kind experience and some good ol’ fashioned American BBQ.
